Do me a quick favor. Think about your website. Does it have consistent blogs or a free e-book as a lead magnet? What about vlogs or podcasts? Having consistent, high-quality content locked and loaded on your fitness website can be the difference between getting on the first page of Google or being stuck out in no man’s land.

Do you have a content calendar for fitness blogs and e-books? Do you know what your topics will be? Have you researched which keywords you’ll use for search engine optimization?

If you’re new to content marketing or you need some direction, roadmapping allows you to define and plan the content you need to increase traffic and sales.

What is Roadmapping?

Think of roadmapping as a high-level form of content planning. It involves thorough target market, keyword, and competitor research to provide you with an annual content calendar. From blog topics to keywords to publishing dates, you’ll have an action plan for at least a year of marketing content.

Benefits of Roadmapping Your Content

Want to take your content marketing to the next level? Here are some of the benefits of roadmapping:

No Guesswork

You know exactly what content you need 12 to 24 months ahead of when you’ll need it. This allows you to strategically time your content and special offers around seasonal opportunities.

More Freedom

With a fitness content marketing plan in place, you’ll save yourself a lot of time. You can put that time back into your fitness business to do things you love, or you can (finally) take some time off.

Measurable Progress

When you plan your content for the year, you can actively track how it’s doing, and this will allow you to tweak future content to perform even better.

Peace of Mind

Roadmapping makes content marketing a lot less stressful and intimidating. A clearer headspace helps you focus on more important things in your fitness business.

What You Can Expect During a Roadmapping Session

During the roadmapping process, I’ll be researching, planning, and documenting. The action plan you receive is the clean-and-crisp result of all that work. Here’s a breakdown of what you can expect during a typical roadmapping session.

1. Consultation:

This is our initial chat. We’ll discuss your fitness business, current marketing content (if any), and goals you have. For example, do you want to increase traffic by 25% in three months? If so, we’ll take a look at the type of content you need and how often you should be posting to reach that goal.

2. Research:

This is where I dive into the weeds and do some reconnaissance for you. I’ll gain an understanding of your target audience and what problems they face that we can address with your online content. I want your website to be the first and only place that your target market goes to for answers. I’ll also study your competitors to find the holes in the industry that they aren’t filing.

3. Strategic Planning:

With all of this information, I’ll determine the best content to create that will address the pain points and issues that your target audience is facing. From here, I’ll create a step-by-step action plan which includes an annual content calendar.

4. Recap and Presentation:

This is when we’ll go over the research and action plan together. By the end of our call, you’ll know precisely what to do to move your content marketing strategy forward.
